Marine Parade is a contemporary Mount Maunganui residence where architecture and nature converge. We were engaged to create a living green wall and exterior planting scheme that wraps the home in greenery and ties it to its coastal setting.

Working closely with the homeowner, we chose a palette of native and subtropical species suited to the home's exposed, coastal conditions. Each was placed to work with the architecture, framing the building and grounding it in the landscape, so the planting feels integral to the design rather than an afterthought.

Nature at Home

Marine Parade shows how a living green wall can become the defining feature of a coastal Mount Maunganui home. Cascading down the garage facade, the wall blends native and subtropical species (grasses, ferns, trailing succulents) into a living artwork that shifts with the seasons. The planting extends into the landscaping, with moss-jointed paving and boulder gardens that ground the architecture in its natural surroundings.

Ground to Sky

The design runs from the ground plane upward. Moss colonises the joints between concrete pavers, boulders sit among low native groundcovers, and the planting intensifies as it climbs the garage wall, grasses giving way to ferns and broad-leafed subtropical species. The result is a home that feels as though the landscape has always been here, blurring the boundary between built form and the coastal environment beyond.
